Who is American Modern?

American Modern traces its roots to The Midland Company, which began in consumer finance before specializing in manufactured housing. The company entered insurance in 1965 and later expanded into watercraft, collector cars, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, specialty dwellings, and other niche lines.

Munich Re acquired American Modern in 2008. Today the group describes itself as a specialty insurance provider for residential property, recreation, and pet health, with admitted products across all 50 states. Product eligibility still varies by state, underwriting company, and individual risk.
